Implementing Positive Behavior Supports in Juvenile Corrections Settings
Funded by the Institute for Education Science this project will develop and conduct a feasibility analysis of facility-wide Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) practices (staff development model, universal, selective and indicated behavioral supports, a comprehensive data-based problem solving model, and a system for measuring intervention fidelity/treatment adherence) in state and county Juvenile detention/incarceration facilities in Oregon, New Mexico, and Georgia.

IVDB provides BEST BEHAVIOR and PBIS Training for BIE
Funded by the Bureau of Indian Education; the IVDB has provided high quality training and technical assistance in more than 120 BIE-funded schools since 2000. IVDB established multiple positive working relationships with nearly all BIE agencies and line offices. Working together, we can help schools become safer and violence-free through well disciplined school programs that strengthen school-wide prevention programs.
Randomized trial of Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) in Oregon Middle Schools
Jeffrey Sprague, PhD has been awarded a 5 year R01 research grant by the National Institutes of Health to experimentally evaluate the impact of PBS on early adolescent development through a randomized control trial involving 36 middle schools. This is the first trial of its kind to be conducted in Oregon and preliminary results are showing a positive impact on grades, attendance, and behaviors in the study schools. The project will also measure the impacts of PBS on staff discipline procedures and will provide evidence about the degree to which PBS is maintained and identify the school characteristics that are associated with its maintenance.

US Safe Schools Healthy Students
The US Safe Schools Healthy Students (SSHS) national initiative has awarded major grants to deserving school districts around the country.  Linn Benton ESD in Oregon and Farmington ESD in New Mexico have both been awarded these prestigious grants.  The Institute on Violence and Destructive Behavior has been contracted to provide technical assistance and program evaluation services to these districts over the next 3 to 4 years. The IVDB faculty is well versed at helping districts establish and maintain progress through SSHS grant awards.
IVDB conducts a multi-year evaluation of Self Enhancement, Inc.
Self Enhancement, Inc. (SEI) in North Portland Oregon is a diverse organization with a unique program for inner-city youth. SEI provides an after-school program as well as case management for approximately 400 children from second grade all the way through college. In 2004 the IVDB was hired by SEI to provide an extensive evaluation of their program processes and outcomes. As a result of the evaluation SEI has been awarded a multi-million dollar grant to replicate the program in Miami, Florida. IVDB continues to provide evaluation support and replication assistance to SEI.
